Installing the game using Autorun a) Installing Future Cop The simplest method of installing Future Cop is to use the "Autorun" feature in Windows 95. Insert the Future Cop CD into your CD-ROM drive. The game will automatically bring up the Install Screen. b) Hard drive space required for installation The "Compact" install requires 21 MB of hard drive space. The "Typical" install requires 200 MB of hard drive space. With all options selected for the "Custom" install, 360 MB of hard drive space will be required. Additional space may be required for the DirectX 6.0 installation. c) If your "Autorun" feature is disabled If for some reason your "Autorun" feature is disabled (It may have been disabled by another program, or the "Auto insert notification" may be disabled on your CD), you can install the program by running AUTORUN.EXE directly from the root directory of the CD. 2. New options on Install screen after install After you've successfully installed the game in Windows 95, you may notice that some of the buttons that were visible on the Install screen (the "Install" button, for example) are no longer visible, while others (the "Play" button) are now available. This simply reflects the new options that are available. Press the "Re-Install" button if you would like to re-install the game (you may have accidentally deleted some files, or possibly changed your mind about installing the play-by-play files). It will prompt you to uninstall the game and then proceed with re-installing it. See section 4 for details on un-installing. 3. Direct X a) Installing DirectX directly from CD (if you skipped it during game install) Future Cop comes with DirectX 6.0 and will prompt you to install it during installation. If you would like to install it manually, make sure the Future Cop CD is in the CD-ROM drive change to the following folder on your CD-ROM drive: "\DirectX6\DirectX" and double-click on DXSETUP.EXE b) DirectX 6.0 and supported hardware We recommend that Future Cop be run with DirectX compatible sound boards and video cards. While there is a good chance that Future Cop will run with non- DirectX compatible hardware, you may find that: i) Sound quality suffers ii) The game runs slightly slower. iii) The game does not run at all. 4. Uninstalling Future Cop Use the Uninstall shortcut in the Start Menu. This can be found with the game icon on the Start Menu. ( Usually "Start Menu/Programs/Electronic Arts/Future Cop ) Windows 95 also has an "Add/Remove Programs" Icon in the Control Panel that you can use to uninstall the game. Note: If you have saved some games, a warning of failure to "uninstall all" will be displayed as you uninstall Future Cop. You can choose to delete manually that file. The save file will be in the same directory that you choose for installation. 5. Memory requirements a) Memory requirements in Windows 95 The Windows 95 version of Future Cop requires a minimum of 32 MB of RAM to run. If there is more memory available, you should experience better game performance in all areas. b) Running the game under stressful Windows 95 conditions At Electronic Arts we strive to bring you the best in graphics, audio and gameplay. We are always pushing the envelope of computer performance. While we have made every effort to ensure that Future Cop multi-tasks with all Windows 95 applications, we recommend that you shut down other applications and run Future Cop by itself when possible. 6. Keyboard, joystick and mouse functionality You must use the mouse to navigate the game interface. Click on buttons and icons to select modes and options. The keyboard is available to enter information when required. Also, the keyboard is the default way to control the X-1 Alpha. Joysticks/gamepads will not operate until you are in a game, except in the controller configuration select screen. To setup your controller, click on the "Preferences" button. Then click on the "Controller Configuration" button. Under "Default Input Profiles" select one of the controller options. Please note that these are button configurations, not the name of your controller. If you like, you may change the button configuration to match your personal preferences. When you are done, click "OK". If your controller does not function, please see the documentation that came with it. Most controllers require a separate installation procedure. We highly recommend the use of a good 10-button gamepad for in-game play. To bring up the in-game pause menus you must first push ESC and then navigate with the mouse again. We advise you to not switch out of the game too often by means of ALT-TAB as it may cause problems with your game. 7. Notes on 3DFX Cards recommended: Diamond Monster 3D Canopus Pure 3D 3DFX Guillemot Maxi Gamer 3D 3DFX Orchid Righteous 3D 3DFX Quantum 3D Obsidian If you experience palette corruption in the loading screen or in-game and have the MS Office Toolbar loaded, try running the game without the toolbar. Alt-tab has been disabled for 3DFX. 8. Notes on D3D Support Chipsets tested and supported: ATI 3D Rage Pro NVidia Riva TNT Diamond Stealth 2 G460 (Intel I740) Diamond Stealth II 220S (Rendition V2100) Matrox G2-200 Real 3D StarFighter Nvidia Riva 128 (w/ some issues) The 3D Setup program, FutureCop/setup/3Dsetup.exe, defaults to D3D support for the above chipsets. If your card has D3D support and is not one of the chipsets above, the 3D Setup program will default to Software Rendering. In some cases, this may run faster. However, if your D3D card has 4mb of texture memory (or AGP texturing), you can choose D3D support in 3D Setup. Please note that other cards have not been tested and may not work with Future Cop. If you experience problems, please contact your card manufacturer to get the latest drivers. 9. Notes on Sound and Video Cards Future Cop is compatible with most standard video and sound cards. 10. Troubleshooting a) Game pauses during CD access for voice-overs during a mission If you are experiencing this problem, you need to have the mission files on your hard drive, instead of reading them from the CD-ROM. Reinstall using the "Typical" option. You can also use the "Custom" option if you select "Missions". 11. Network Running the game on an IPX network with routers In order for the game to function across a router, IPX networks with routers must be configured to route SAP. Also, the machine operating as the game server must not be running any other software which is an SAP service (TSRs under DOS, some file sharing, print sharing, or other servers under Windows 95). Once again, we recommend that you contact your network administrator if you are experiencing problems. 12. Modem a) Initialization strings If you change the modem initialization string at the Modem Setup screen, the changes will be saved when you exit. If for any reason you would like to go back to the original initialization strings, please choose the RESET button in the Modem Setup screen. b) Baud Rates Under most circumstances users should set the modem connect speed to 57,600 in the Modem Setup Screen. While this should work with most modems, you may have to experiment to find the optimum setting. c) Establish Connection and Wait for call ESC can always abort the connection attempt. The game will also time-out after 5 minutes. d) Call Waiting We recommend that call waiting be disabled as we have experience some problems with it during modem games. Specifically, call waiting can disrupt modem games already in progress.
