Question about autism being misdiagnosed I didn’t realize how often autism is still misunderstood or misdiagnosed today. I’ve been reading this community for about a week and decided to finally ask a question. I’m an autistic woman, and I’m wondering if others here have had similar experiences. Have any of you been misdiagnosed as having schizophrenia or bipolar disorder before being properly recognized as autistic? In my case, people who don’t know me well sometimes make assumptions based on how I communicate. I tend to be very direct and literal, and I struggle with social communication and filtering my thoughts before speaking. These are challenges I associate with my autism, but some people interpret them very differently. Because of this, I’ve been labeled by others as “schizophrenic” or “bipolar,” which I find upsetting and inaccurate. I’m curious whether this is something others in the autistic community experience, or if it’s less common. I’m mainly looking to understand whether this is a shared experience and how others have dealt with being misunderstood or misdiagnosed. Thank you for reading

Thing is with Women its easier to be misdiagnosed with ADD or/and Autism cus the studies where done on men and women usually (not always) have different "symptoms" so its not as easy to diagnose. the world now days are uneducated as fuck and there a lot of jokes thrown around about schizophrenia and bipolar as well as Autism and dyslexia so people don't know actual information just the joke side of it all so they misinterpreted and label people because that's what they think is correct without doing any actual research and asking questions to get real information. there's also a shit ton of people who are faking it online and being like "OH I'm so OCD or ADHD" cus they're organized or have energy but in reality OCD is like an actual serious mental illness that's way deeper then repetitiveness and organization. A lot of misinformation is being normalized and its a big issue especially for us with Autism/OCD/ADD/Depression/Bipolar/dyslexia ect.. Things where supposed to be easier as the world is letting people with disabilities physical and mental get the help and accommodations they need but its starting to back track unfortunately due to stupid people who have no empathy or common sense...
