v0.9 8/5/95 - NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION

This is a short description of Tmail and how to install.

Note: this version doesn't have the POP3 or SMTP protocols implemented
yet so don't be disappointed - as soon as gsg@cix finishes his stuff
it will be included.

* POP3 and SMTP have been implemented as separate programs and are
therefore not included (you would need the TCP/IP shell for them to
 work anyway)

Tmail - the files:

TMAIL.OPA - put into the /APP directory
MAILEDIT.ALS - create this yourself by selecting create new list on the OPL
Editor icon (not the Word icon!)

Make the directories...

\mail
\incoming
\outgoing

Copy the dummy mail 'mail.*' into the \incoming directory.

(note.. if you want to increase your message base for testing just copy
the mail.* files into \incoming again and re-run tmail and then repeat
a few times)

* You could write your own program that grabs mail (standard
internet header format) from any source and puts them into the incoming
directory to use Tmail without POP3 or SMTP.
* Also if you write a program to take mail from the outgoing directory
and send it via whatever means you have. In this way Tmail can be made
to work with a variety of input/output sources.

Install tmail from the install applications menu and run it.. there you go.

Go straight into the preference screens and set up your user, address, etc.

If you get an error here, you may need to create the default directories
/INCOMING and /MAIL on your internal drive. This, of course, will be
tidied up when we start proper beta-testing.

* E-mail with *any* problem with installing. (including problems that are
 mentioned).

Keys:

Up/Down = next/prev message.
Left/Right = compress/expand message window (obscuring browse menu)
space = page down in message window
shift-space = page up in message window
page-up = next page up of subjects in browse window
page-down = next page down of subjects in browse window
shift-down/up = highlight a range of messages (psion-m actually marks them)

To-do:

* Full POP3/SMTP support (pending Giles' TCP/IP transport)
* Import/export mail folder from other disk/directory than the one specified
in preferences... this is currently fixed so the flags file (which is
always updated) can be kept on a ram drive and the .odb and .txt (which
are only appended to) can be kept on flash. (Each folder has these three
  files)
* Registration and info screens.
